At the time of this crash, Dunn was with another officer who was responding to a separate crash. As Dunn and the unnamed officer were responding to the scene, another driver, who Aurora Police suspect was impaired, had struck the officers, causing one of them to be pinned. It is unclear whether Dunn or the other officer was pinned. However, the impact of this wreck had led Dunn to fatal wounds a short time later and the other officer to suffer serious injuries.
