HUDSON, CO – A Toyota Tundra driver had collided head-on with a Toyota Tacoma, leading her and the two toddlers with her to sustain injuries and one to die from his injuries Sunday.
This wreck happened before 5:30 p.m. on Weld County Road 49. KDVR said the events of the crash unfolded when the Toyota Tundra motorist — a 36-year-old woman — was traveling north and, crossed the double yellow lines in a no-pass zone and collided head-on with the other driver.
The woman’s car went northeast briefly and stopped in the northbound lanes while the Tundra traveled to the west side of the road.
The Tundra motorist succumbed to fatal wounds at the scene. He was identified as 31-year-old Joshua Maloy of Greeley, an Adams County deputy who was off-duty at the time of the wreck.
The woman, whose identity was undisclosed, was hospitalized for serious wounds. The toddlers with her, a 2-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy, also sustained injuries. The girl’s lacerations were deemed serious as well, and the boy’s was minor.
Colorado State Patrol said all occupants wore safety devices. They have launched an investigation and confirmed speed and impairment did not play roles in this fatal wreck. They have not mentioned the contributing factors at this time.
In addition, no pending charges or citations were mentioned.
