LAKEWOOD, CO – A 37-year-old man is suspected of operating a truck while impaired following a two-vehicle collision Wednesday in Lakewood that claimed the life of the other driver and left another person injured.

Lakewood Police said the collision happened at the intersection of West Colfax Avenue and Garrison Street before 6 a.m.

The DUI suspect, a Centennial resident identified as Ilya Slavin, was driving a truck east on West Colfax Avenue and approaching Garrison Street when his vehicle crashed into a white Audi. The impact of that crash sent the truck rolling into another car at a nearby shopping center.

Shortly after arriving at the scene, officers confirmed that the Audi driver, identified as 65-year-old Beth Bargas, from Lakewood, died at the scene. Bargas’ passenger, a 47-year-old adult, was hospitalized for unspecified but “multiple injuries.”

Slavin was subsequently arrested and booked into Jefferson County Jail. He faces multiple charges, among them DUI Vehicular Homicide and DUI Vehicular Assault.
