JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO – Three people lost their lives due to a series of crashes involving six vehicles Thursday morning on Interstate 70 near Wheat Ridge, reports KDVR.
The accident happened on the eastbound lanes near Ward Road at around 8:20 a.m.
According to Wheat Ridge police, a semitrailer transporting plastic piping overturned, which caused the contents to scatter across both sides of the highway. A series of crashes involving five other vehicles followed the initial rollover.
Three people in one of the involved vehicles were pronounced deceased at the scene. Two other people from the same vehicle were rushed to a local hospital where they were listed in stable condition.
First responders also had the driver of the semi-trailer taken to the hospital, though the severity of their injuries was not immediately clear.
No information regarding potential charges or citations has been disclosed.
