BOULDER COUNTY, CO – Two people lost their lives as a result of a rollover collision New Year’s Day on U.S. Highway 26 near Boulder that left two children hospitalized, reports KDVR.
Colorado State Patrol troopers responded to the scene of the double-fatal accident near Lefthand Canyon Drive at around 9:46 a.m.
According to officials, a Jeep was heading northbound when it traveled through the center grass median, overturned, and came to rest in the southbound lanes.
The driver and one passenger, both described as adults, were pronounced deceased at the scene. First responders transported two other passengers, juveniles aged 11 and 16, to an area hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. The patients have been identified as the children of the decedents.
A section of the highway was blocked in both directions but the northbound lanes were reopened by about 2:40 p.m.
An investigation remains in progress.
